BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS

We parked the RV at the Crooked Tree RV Park near downtown Brownsville.

DOWNTOWN BROWNSVILLE

City named after Major Jacob Brown.  Brown first casualty of Mexican War.  The battle of Resaca de la Palma, fought near Brownsville was decisive in war efforts.  Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport opened 1929.  Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart attended dedication of airport.
We parked downtown and took off on a bicycle tour and peddled along the Rio Grand River for several miles

 

PORT OF BROWNSVILLE

Used by Boats & Ships.  Opened 1936.  Facilities include 14 deep-sea and 4 barge docks.  Home to one of the Gulf’s largest shrimping fleets.  Over 220 trawlers make port home base.  Port connects Brownsville with Gulf of Mexico.  Channel is 42 feet deep, and 17 miles long.
