We travel through the Guadeloupe Mountains and the National Park in New Mexico and Texas on our way to El Paso.  It is absolutely beautiful. wpe775.jpg (7331 bytes) wpe773.jpg (2089 bytes) wpe798.jpg (4014 bytes) wpe778.jpg (10567 bytes)

We stop at a picnic area, and I collect a few small rocks and Paul takes some beautiful pictures of the scenery.

We stay at the Mission RV Park in El Paso.  This town is huge.   I would say that it is about 95% Mexican.  We go to a Chinese buffet restaurant for an appetizing dinner.  We go to a flea market in El Paso. There isn't anything that we are interested in at the flea market so we decide to cross the border into Mexico.

wpe78E.jpg (4814 bytes) wpe79C.jpg (5835 bytes) We were going to walk across the border, but took a wrong road and ended up driving in.  This is new experience for me and for Paul.  As soon as we get into the middle of Juarez a Mexican on a bicycle approached us and us and offered to lead us to a local market area.  We go inside and up and down each isle, but found nothing of interest.  Everyone is very friendly and industrious.
wpe79B.jpg (7312 bytes) wpe7F9.jpg (8363 bytes) We go to another market area and buy two glass balls. I buy two pairs of earrings, a hair clip, and a matching bracelet.

wpe799.jpg (6937 bytes) wpe7A5.jpg (5969 bytes) We eat lunch on an outside table at the market.  I eat a bland Mexican dish.  I have no idea what it is but I'm still alive, so it must have been OK.  Paul orders steak.   It is thinly sliced with an unusual taste. wpe7A9.jpg (4749 bytes) wpe7B7.jpg (5728 bytes)
We come back across the border into Texas and we both breath a little sigh of relief.  It is very interesting but a little strange also.  I was panicked inside but I made it.  I wouldn't have even tried the experience a few years ago.  I will be able now to say that I have been to Mexico. wpe7A3.jpg (6282 bytes) wpe7FA.jpg (5225 bytes)
Paul goes back out to explore some more. He mentioned going to another flea market and I imagine that he will have a lot to write about when he returns.  I find the flea market at an old drive-in theater near downtown El Paso.  It was probably a good market, but by the time I arrive many dealers are closing.  I decide to drive back to the RV on a road beside the Rio Grand River.

There is an embankment all along the river so that I can't see it to get a picture.  It finally becomes a challenge to get a picture, so I parked the car, get on the bicycle and ride across the bridge into Mexico.   I finally get my picture.  Boy... what a disappointing excuse for a river !!!

The town is not impressive, and the roads are not good for bicycling, but the crossing on the bicycle is a good adventure.

The best part of crossing into Mexico always seems to be the return trip to the good old USA.

On my way back from Mexico to the RV, I drive by the Speaking Rock Casino and am lured in by a whisper in my ear.  I decide to play $20.00 worth of quarters and leave.  On my eighth quarter, I hit two blue sevens x2 and win 600 quarters ($150.00).  I play the rest of my quarters and walk away with $130.00 in my pocket... doesn't happen often!!!
