I fall asleep and wake up in the middle of a desert with sand dunes everywhere. Sir Knight has chosen Monahans Sandhills State Park in Texas. I expect a camel to come over a hill any minute. Better yet I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Lawrence of Arabia race by.

Paul enjoys the sand dunes.  He is like an eight year old running to the top to see what is on the other side and he sees great wonder.  That is what is so beautiful about Paul.  I dislike the sand immensely.  I walk on top of a dune with Paul to be a good scout although I look like an actress trying to be incognito.  I have a bandanna tied around my head, sunglasses on and a Kleenex over my nose.

This does not work and after our little outing Paul has to take me to the Doctor.  I am developing my own art work of a full blown case of bronchitis.  Sand dunes are not good for wimps.  Meanwhile Paul has developed a toothache and calls Joel, his dentist to see what to do.  Joel tells him to get the tooth pulled or put a garlic glove on it to stop the pain.  I guess Paul ate too much sand.  After the Doctor visit and prescription filling we depart the Texas area and head to New Mexico.

Our RV spot was carved out of a dune in the middle of a giant sand box wpe21A.jpg (6711 bytes) wpe215.jpg (3665 bytes) wpe217.jpg (4395 bytes) wpe216.jpg (5537 bytes) wpe207.jpg (4889 bytes)

Paul runs from the campground to the Pump Jack Picnic Area and then down a long sandy road out into the desert that was used to service the oil pumps.

Unique plant life has adapted in the sand.

The wind is blowing quite a lot and makes designs in the sand.  The foliage being blown by the wind made it's own sand pictures.

During his run in the desert, Paul is inspired to compile a picture essay on "The Price of Progress in the Desert".
