| Padre Island and
the national park was anticipated to be the highlight of our
exploration. The island was flat and featureless, and the national
park underdeveloped. |

We ventured across the
causeway to South Padre Island and drove down the beach several
miles where the Rio Grand River entered the ocean. It was so
shallow that you could wade across to or from Mexico. |

The beach of the
National Park was hard packed, and RV's could camp on it. With a
4-wheel drive, one can drive 50+ miles south down the beach. |
 |
There is always a
highlight... even to featureless. We each had a pound of the
world's best boiled shrimp straight out of the Gulf at this
restaurant. |
