PORT ISABEL LIGHTHOUSE

Located near west end of
Queen Isabella Causeway to South Padre Island. Built 1853.
Closed 1905. Was used by both Confederate
and Union Forces during Civil War. Now operated by Texas Parks &
Wildlife. 74 steps to top of lighthouse. Admission charge.
Lighthouse Keepers Cottage is a reproduction of original. Port
Isabel Chamber of Commerce housed in cottage. Also contains visitor
center and museum. |

MUSEUM

Champion, 1899. Served as post office, U S Customs
Building, railroad depot, general store, and restaurant. Front of
the exterior painted with fish mural, 1906. Mural
restored 1996. Building now houses Port Isabel
Historical Museum. |
